The Special Mother...Our favorite in our house...
The Special Mother
by Erma Bombeck
Most women become mothers by accident, some by choice,
a few by social pressure and a couple by habit.
This year nearly 100,000 women will become mothers of handicapped children.
Did you ever wonder how these mothers are chosen?
Somehow I visualize God hovering over Earth
Selecting his instruments for propagation with great care and deliberation.
As he observes, he instructs his angels to take notes in a giant ledger.
"Armstrong, Beth, son. Patron Saint, Matthew."
"Forrest, Marjorie, daughter. Patron Saint, Celia."
"Rutledge, Carrie, twins. Patron Saint...give her Gerard. He's used to profanity."
Finally he passes a name to an angel and smiles. "Give her a handicapped child."
The angel is curious. "Why this one, God? She's so happy."
"Exactly," smiles God. "Could I give a handicapped child a mother who knows no laughter?
That would be cruel."
"But does she have the patience?" asks the angel.
"I don't want her to have too much patience, or she'll drown in a sea of self-pity and despair.
Once the shock and resentment wear off she'll handle it."
"I watched her today.
She has that sense of self and independence so rare and so necessary in a mother.
You see, the child I'm going to give her has a world of it's own.
She has to make it live in her world, and that's not going to be easy."
"But Lord, I don't think she even believes in you."
God smiles. "No matter, I can fix that. This one is perfect. She has just enough selfishness."
The angel gasps, "Selfishness? Is that a virtue?"
God nods. "If she can't separate herself from the child occasionally, she will never survive.
Yes, here is a woman whom I will bless with a child less than perfect.
She doesn't know it yet, but she is to be envied.
She will never take for granted a spoken word.
She will never consider a step ordinary.
When her child says momma for the first time, she will be witness to a miracle and know it.
I will permit her to see clearly the things I see--ignorance, cruelty,
prejudice--and allow her to rise above them.
She will never be alone.
I will be at her side every minute of every day of her life
Because she is doing my work as surely as she is here by my side."
"And what about her Patron Saint?" asks the angel, his pen poised in the air. God smiles.
"A mirror will suffice."

Sarahbeth has gone vampire!
Hey guys!! Yes, I have gone vampire. I have a cool vampire name, Sahara Nightgale. My mother has been having a ball with me about a vampire book/movie, which I won't name. So she has been letting me stay up late and watch some of her movies.
Lost boys. The first one and it was very very cool. All night I wished that David would fly in the window and bite me!
Dracula 2000. Man, was this one good. Not only was Gerard Butler good looking to me but the story behind it was the best. Not that I'm saying I like Gerard Butler but he is hot stuff and this was a good movie.
Interview with a Vampire...
I have not seen this movie yet. I have to read the book before I can see the movie.
But only one thing could make this movie bad and that is Tom Cruise not playing dear Lestat right. But Louis (Brad Pitt) makes up for all of that.
So far this is all we have watched but that works for me. I also have Faer the vampire in my book I'm writing. And I have one more thing before you go.

Easter Egg Hunts...
We hit 2 egg hunts today. The first at a local plant nursery. Jarod and Hannah hunted together. They were looking for a GOLDEN EGG. Hannah being the flirt she is got a little help from the Easter Bunnies helper who pointed her in the right direction. SO, surprise Hannah found it and won all this...
The next one we hit was at a friends church. They made off with some toys and some candy.
This is the cute bunny cookie Hannah made before the hunt. She said it was yummy!

HEY Sarah...
Easter is next Sunday we still don't have a new background! Are you being a teenager, sleeping all day and partying all night?
In case you have wondered, there is a big positive of having a grandparent live with you. Art has been having Sarah do small things with a car lately, in case you have lost track Sarah can start driving January next year, no she will not be 16 put she can have a permit. Anyway, I needed Mom's car moved to get something out and I asked Art and Sarah to do it. Thinking Art would pull out the car and Sarah would get it out. WRONG! Art had Sarah pull the car out and he got it. When grandma went out to the garage to see what was going on, she found HER car being driven by her 14 year old granddaughter. Art made a good choice there, if it had been my truck he would have been grounded for YEARS! Yes, it is nice to have someone elses car for her to learn with. You see I have my truck, yes it is very special to me, and Art has a company car, only he and I can drive it. Good thing Sarah doesn't want to drive until she is 18. Can't blame her, we do have ice up here.
